Where it all began..
The early meetings to discuss the possibility of forming a Junior Rugby League Club were held at the home of Charlie Booth in 1967. Those present decided to call a meeting to gauge support for the concept.
The inaugural meeting to form the Club was held at the Pennant Hills Community Centre and chaired by Mr. Jack Argent from the Parramatta Rugby League Club. The meeting was well attended, and a decision was made to officially form the Pennant Hills District Junior Rugby League Club.
Nominations were called for positions to form a committee and the first committee elected was:
President: Max Shepherd
Sec/Treas: Eric Moore
Snr. V/Pres: George Butlin
Committee Members: Percy Frankel, Don Tully Jim Worrall, John Woods Alan Gale, Charlie Booth.
The Club had taken the first step.
The next decision to be made was which Junior League to apply to join. As Parramatta would require us to pay to join and pay for our own gear, while North Sydney was delighted to accept us and they would provide gear and help with uniforms. It was not a difficult decision.
Delegates were elected to meet with North Sydney: George Butlin, Don Tully, John Woods and Jim Worrell.
In 1968, eight teams took part in competition as the STAGS. The A grade team made the final at North Sydney Oval.
Our President Max Shepard was from Manchester City, England. He nominated for our colours to be Sky Blue and white which was accepted by the committee. Our emblem was decided by a clock which had a Stag head mounted to it. After hours of deliberation the clock struck midnight with all noticing the stag head and all parties agreed on the Mighty STAG.
Our Home ground was Pennant Hills Oval and in later years with our club growing we adopted Headen Park for our senior teams.
